Hi, I’m Eric, and yes I have a bit of ADD, and I’m always tinkering.

This blog is a bit of everything.  European Cars from the 50′s 60′s and 70′s, gardening, woodworking, craft, and modern design all rolled into one. There is a bit of something for everyone, I’d like to think.

I’m also a

  • Husband
  • Amateur Woodworker
  • Triumph Spitfire Driver
  • Vegetarian
  • World Traveller
  • ex-Biochemist
  • Professional Wedding Photographer
  • Westie Owner

This isn’t my first blog, In fact it isn’t even my second.  I’ve been keeping a blog over at www.EricHegwer.com for a few years for my business.  But when I bought a house I found that I was mixing content (wedding photos and D.I.Y. projects) so I started this one.

I’m not afraid to tackle small or large projects, know enough to stop working when I’m tired, and have enough pro friends to call in an emergency when I get stuck.

My First Garage is all about tackling new projects, from idea to weekly dusting.  As for my style, I tend to lean toward the modern.  I grew up in a 1920′s french cottage style home on California’s central coast, have lived in a shopping mall, and now own a 1970′s ranch in Austin, TX.

This site isn’t like any other out there.  Sure there is a blog, where you can follow my projects, but there is also a budding little community of like-minded folks.  Guys who like to tinker, husbands who have stylish wives. Woodworking, Anthropologie, design, Cars.

The my First Garage site has two basic parts. A blog and a forum. The blog is a stream-of consciousness starting between my ears. Sometimes I update it a few times a day. Other times I’ll go a week without posting. Subscribe via RSS, and get updates automatically.
When I first started writing, I used to get a lot of questions via email. Over 200 people wrote to me asking about how to remove wallpaper. So I started a little forum and began to share what I know with anyone who asks. I’d love it if you joined our community! Let’s start a place where ALL the shelter bloggers can chat!

  1. Hi Eric –

I saw your comment over on the Lumber Jocks forum (http://lumberjocks.com/topics/10501 – what a mess). Anyway, thanks for the kind words, and, as I said before, please feel free to stop by the shop if you are ever in Houston. Have a great new year.

    Cheers,
    Clark
