Home decor ideas

Postby FRANCISCO22 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 2:11 am

Hi
We have a fairly new house, so no painting needed, but we are looking at making it look more homely you know adding extra touches. I want to know how to do this without going overboard or it looking cheap and nasty - but want to keep the costs to a minimum if possible., Please share your decorating tips and what goes with what.
Thanks!

Wow, that's a huge questions - where to begin.
My wife and I like to buy things that we find interesting. Actually she does most of the buying, and I'm pretty good at finding good parking places at the Mall.
For instance, every time we walked through our entryway, we felt like it needed something. So we bought a table and put a plant in a vase on it. It looked nice, but didn't seem quite right. So later we found a bench at a garage sale, and put it where the table was, then put a large colored flowerpot next to the bench (and put some umbrellas and canes in it), and relocated the table to our dining room, and put some liquor bottles on it.
I guess we find stuff we love, and then find room for them in our house. That's what makes it a home. It's never quite done, either - always a work in progress, and everything has a story...

There are lots of good web sites, one is hgtv.com, and another is diynetwork.com
Both have great ideas for home decor that you can do yourself. There are hundreds of books written about the subject also, just spend an afternoon at your local book store or library. Also lots of magazines.Way too many ideas to put in this venue.
