Workbenches used in Unusual ways

Postby Eric » Sat Jan 09, 2010 11:05 am

To me it's always a shame when something so useful is discarded, or thrown away. Especially old workbenches. As I've studied workbench design, and construction, I realize how much effort goes into constructing one. In the old days, when a young man (it was never women) began his apprenticeship in woodworking, their first task was to build their own bench. As they became better, and more experienced, they would build new benches. Over time, the workbench became a sort of business card. If a woodworker had a fancy, elaborate bench with exotic woods, it was a sign of their success.

Now I love to see how they are repurposed. As I find photos of old workbenches, I'll add them to this thread.

This old workbench was found on the street, then repurposed as a kitchen table. Found on Automatism.
