Tool Wish List
While I’ve got a lot of miscellaneous tools, there are some things that I need to finish out my current project. As I get new items you will be able to scroll down to the purchased section and click on the tool to link to my blog entry describing and reviewing the tool.
Router + bits – I’m looking for recommendations – if you have a good one, something you love, let me know. I’ve heard that the router bit kits are mostly junk and just sit on a shelf collecting dust. So I think I’ll just pick up single bits as I need them from Whiteside.
circular saw – I need something to cut down big 4×8 sheets of plywood into manageable sizes. Ideally I’d love a cordless one, but since it will mostly be used in my garage, a corded saw will do.
Straight Edge for Router and Saw
Clamps, Clamps, Clamps!
Marking Gauge
Dovetail Chisel
Mallet
Dovetail Jig – I’ve done a lot of research on this, and from what I’ve learned Leigh Dovetail Jogs are the best. Even if you are just starting out like I am, if you want good results, you need to get the best materials and tools. Now, I don’t need something super adjustable, or one that makes fancy dovetails, just something basic, that will last for many years and just make great dovetails. Of course I’ll get a Whiteside bit for the cutting.
Gauge for measuring table saw blade height – Since my table saw is old, and the makrings on the cabinent are worn and unreliable, I need a way to accurately determine how high my table saw blade is. After a bit of research I found this Woodworkers Height Gauge made by Angle Wright. It’s a bit pricey, but so very cool. The way it works is by sitting on the surface of your table saw, and the measuring tip just rests on your blade. Then you look across at the markings and can see exactly how heigh your table saw blade is. It’s professionally made, and has both gross and fine adjustments to perfectly dial in the perfect measurement.
